Musicians seize control of the music business model

Radiohead said no to having their new album on iTunes.

Radiohead releases their new album for sale online for whatever you want to pay for it.

Finally. FINALLY. Musicians have taken the lead in determining the new business model for music.

Radiohead have turned the release of their new album into art, with a artistic, quirky website and shopping basket to pre-order an mp3 download of their upcoming album. The shock and the trick: the buyer gets to set the price they want to pay for the album.

I see this as the first ‘so what’ moment for the iTunes Music Store, a sign of maturity or even the beginning of mediocrity.

And don’t we all want to see what people will pay for a new Radiohead album! Those stats will be very, very interesting.
