THE most amazing video clip (really!)

January 15, 2009 – Libby Davy – Print

Many thanks to Jenny Davy for this short piece from David Attenborough and the Australian Lyre Bird – now officially one of the most interesting species in the world. This is no hoax – just ask Dickie bird.

Ironically, this is an Aussie via a Pom via an Aussie to an Aussie in Pommy Land!

As Jen says, in her usual understated way “Fascinating stuff, eh?”

Enjoy. Comment. Do something about it even.

Truly an amazing clip. I was waiting for the punchline where Bill Oddie or David A. turns around and said that it was all a gag. I have seen and heard Lyre birds in the wild before but nothing like this. I would love to hear them mimicking a family of screaming kids that have just been told they had to spend the summer holidays at grandmas house!

The lyre bird ….I would love to sit in it’s environment and draw, record and photograph. I will now do some research and see where they live (if they be so lucky) without threat. I have actually heard a bird that some people call a “copy cat” bird and it sounds like a mobile phone. Maybe they are next door! As DA put it one was singing it’s own doom! It is no lier, this bird!

Pst while I am here and if there is anyone “outthere’ who can tell me why I always get a break in transmission on UTube.
